Tangents in Dreams

Tangents in dreams is an idea I've been sat on for a while. It didn’t start out

I've wanted to shoot impossibly balanced images for a while. My initial idea was starting out with just food on white backgrounds with a very commercial approach. Mostly because of the round and organic shapes in fruit and veg, the stacking element would be ‘impossible’. The notion of weight came next, balancing a stone bust on an egg for example.

As time went by, the idea grew, taking some inspiration from surrealist paintings and more modern render work, I also wanted to have a less commercial influence. Photography for the love of the art form.

I, along with stylist Alice Lewis arrived at a much more structured set with the objects stacked within, reminiscent or ancient mediterranean structures and spaces. I used various lighting to help indicate the time of day which was great fun, particularly the ‘moonlit’ scene.
